A Ukrainian drone team, led by drone ace "Balu," successfully hunted down Moisey's team. However, analysts warn that Moisey and his team are replaceable, and a new drone team could come to terrorize the supply route. CNN —Ukrainian forces have retaken the village of Urozhaine in the eastern Donetsk region, Kyiv said on Wednesday, after days of punishing battles as part of its counteroffensive against Russia. Also known as the Kerch Bridge, it holds personal value for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Here’s what you need to know:Why is the bridge so important to Russia? The Kerch Bridge is strategically important because it links Russia’s Krasnodar region with Crimea, which was illegally annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014. Rail traffic across the Crimea bridge is continuing to operate on Monday, albeit with delays, according to video on social media, a Russian official and Russian state media. A widely circulating video, which appears to have been captured this morning from a train passing on the parallel rail bridge, shows significant damage to one of the bridge’s road spans.

The Kerch Strait Bridge that links the Crimean Peninsula to mainland Russia, in March. Russian officials blamed Ukraine for the attack on the Kerch Strait Bridge. Ukrainian officials offered no comment on the incident. Video and photographs verified by The Times showed damage to both sides of the road bridge, with the most significant being along a span of the bridge heading into Russia. The attack came as Ukrainian forces were engaged in an ambitious and grinding counteroffensive aimed at driving Russian forces from southern Ukraine.

There’s been little change on the front lines in Ukraine over the past day, according to the Ukrainian military — but plenty of shelling. “Ukrainian defense forces repelled numerous enemy attacks near the town of Mariinka,” it said. The General Staff said the Russians had launched more attacks with S-300 missiles against the town of Kostiantynivka, which lies west of Bakhmut. Geolocated social media video also shows Russian attacks in the Kharkiv region, where the two sides are separated by the river Oskil in some areas. The General Staff said that in Russian-occupied areas, civilians were still being pressured to take Russian citizenship.
The Wagner Group will exhaust itself in Bakhmut within two months, a Ukrainian commander said. An unnamed NATO official told CNN in March that Russians were dying at five times the rate of the defending Ukrainian forces in the city. On Friday, UK military intelligence said it is "highly likely" that Russian forces had advanced to the city center. "I can confidently state that the Ukrainian defense forces control a much larger percentage of the territory of Bakhmut," the Ukrainian commander told CNN, without specifying a figure. The Institute for the Study of War estimated that, as of Tuesday, Russian forces controlled 76.5% of the territory.
The same Russian brigade has been destroyed and reconstituted 8 times since the start of the war. The Russian 155th Naval Infantry Brigade suffered heavy losses in attempts to take Vuhledar. At one point the entire brigade, which consisted of 5,000 troops, was reported to be destroyed near Vuhledar. Dmytrashkivskyi estimated at the time that Russian forces were losing 150-300 marines a day near the coal-mining town. Some of these military bloggers have criticized the Russian military command for ordering ineffective human-wave style frontal assaults in Vuhledar, according to ISW.
Ukraine's unexpected use of remote mines helped give it the upper hand in fighting in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine has been using US-supplied remote anti-armor mines fired in shells to destroy Russian tanks. The US has sent Ukraine at least 7,200 RAAM shells in its aid packages. Russian forces have struggled to counter Ukraine's mines, particularly RAAM shells raining from above. Despite multiple assaults, Russian forces appear to be floundering and facing mounting losses as Ukraine continues to push back.
A Russian marine who survived a major battle in Vuhledar said survivors are treated as deserters. There were just eight survivors in one company, he told Russian media outlet 7x7. The marine, part of the 155th Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet, told Russian media outlet 7x7 that "it would have been better if I had been captured and never returned." So far things have not gone to plan, according to Russian military bloggers, Ukrainian officials, and reports of the battle. Ukrainian military drones have also captured the scenes of chaos, including Russian tanks running into minefields and being blown up, CNN reported.
